Thank you I'll look over that one too.

Okay I should be able to do the converting better this Round,
I was doing pretty good at the end of the last one.

Not sure what my overall plan is going to be, but this will probably
be my last Round with the Japanese, I'll get the highest Score that
I can and then switch to something that I can attack with and spend
a few Rounds learning that.

Good to know...
Still, all that does is show ability to Explore.

1. I still cannot Defend successfully.
2. I still have a lot of trouble converting buildings at the start/end of a Run.
3. I still have trouble with Catapults/Thieves (losing cat attacks even with 100 Research?!)
4. I still have never raised an army and attacked anyone.

Without those fundamentals of being able to Attack/Defend in a war game, and also I
never could have achieved the Research without the continued guidance of the game Admin!

I'm not selling myself short here. I have read almost all of the documentation
twice, and worked out a lot of math. I have done my best to understand and
remember all of the advice given to me. I'm working hard to learn the game...
One day, in another three or four Rounds, I might actually be a threat.

BUT, if you look at my Research bonus now and assume it is a marker of
my skill/experience, you will be sorely mistaken. In fact I was told that I left
the Mage Towers up for way too long, in addition to a couple of other major
mistakes that has cost my Score greatly in the end.

Yeah I started with Blitz because I thought it would be easier,
but Admin said it was easier to learn Standard and he trained
me in the fundamentals.

Eventually I will make time for both, but I'm going to have to
quit three or four of the other games that I play, LOL

Yeah Admin showed me the fundamentals.
BUT, my high Research bonus is a deceptive indication of my Skill.

1. I donated for 15 points
2. I am playing Japanese, which have a bonus
3. Trainer1/Admin held my hand through the last couple of Rounds.

So far, I understand Exploration, but I still do not understand:
1. How to Defend (Kept trying and failing with Towers)
2. How to Attack with Army (never done even once)
3. How to effectively use thieves (effectively)
4. How to effectively use catapults (without huge waste)
5. ...Many other little details that I will pick up over time.

Perhaps in five or six more Rounds I will understand the game
on an intermediate level, but I still feel "new"... Until about a week
ago I still had people dying of starvation and freezing to death.

Hmm, well I'm still trying to get the hang of standard but I'll try again in a Round or two when I can use my Turns more quickly.

True Mighty Mouse, it would be rare, mostly right out of Protection.

True Admin, I had a damn good teacher.

Okay at this point I'll let it drop... Other more important things to discuss.

There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding despite the message I sent you previously... I know you've been very busy so I'll repeat it.

I am NOT upset with Asley.
I am NOT upset with that online hit.

In the message, I said that I was going to drop out of the Training Alliance at the
end of the Round, because I didn't want Mighty Mouse to think I was "trying to have
an easy Round".

I am NOT suggesting this rule for my own benefit.
I have left the Training Alliance to show this.

When you invited me to the game a few years ago, you said that you get a lot of new visitors but most don't stick around. I didn't have time to check it out back then but promised that one day I would.

When I sent you that email a few weeks ago, you said that yes, you would still appreciate suggestions and a fresh perspective... Now I've given a lot of suggestions since then (like the "Repeat Button") and this is just another one of those. I've also
done my best to participate in the New Civ suggestions and tried to give you other ideas on how to keep new players.

In fact, I've also invited several players to the game, and finally one of them is
sticking around for a little while, LOL

Sorry for the "big conversation" but I wanted to clear up the accusation that this was
about a one time hit two weeks ago... I've left the Training Alliance so the rule would never benefit me anyway... It was always something I believed would benefit your game.

Everybody wants more players in the game. Yet they are ruthless toward new players who are trying to learn the fundamentals. "Seems silly to me."

I'm about to start my first Round of Blitz.
Any suggestions on how to Run?
Do I do a full 800 Turns at once?

This is not real life though, it is a game struggling to keep new players.

New players who already have a lot to learn... Being forced to learn to play quickly when you're still trying to learn to play correctly, that's a great way to make people quit.

Maybe you're right, maybe people will either love or hate the game, but with so few players, why risk making them hate it and quit just to gain a bit of land or whatever for a single Round?

Throw little fish back and let them grow into something worth catching.

Changes/Suggestions » Mage/Defense Calculator Jul 19, 2013 04:57 PM (Total replies: 6)

Oh I see, yeah that would be pretty cheap... From the name "landsharing"
I thought maybe you could share land for buildings or something. Like
maybe right now I use it for Farms, and later you use it for Mines or something.

I don't understand why people cheat in these games. It seems so... pointless.
It is far too easy and takes away the challenge and the whole point of the
game, the whole challenge.

Changes/Suggestions » Mage/Defense Calculator Jul 16, 2013 11:03 PM (Total replies: 6)

I would certainly like to see the calculator.

I'm curious, I guess I need to find the rules and look through
them because I'm wondering what landsharing is?

If you're in an alliance aren't you allowed to share things?
That's kind of the whole point isn't it?

Empire Builder » Woodcutter Question Jul 14, 2013 03:42 PM (Total replies: 6)

Hmm, whenever they say they are going to take that much,
I have always cancelled them. In my next Run I'll try that,
I've noticed that about the Houses too... Didn't put 2 + 2 together
though, I'll bet the Woodcutters are also built in one Turn...

Allow me to clarify:

I do NOT mean that a new player should never be attacked.
Only that they should not be Camped or Hit Online.

Exploring is the first thing a new player has to learn, but
having some success with it does not mean they should be
immediately thrown out to sea to swim with the sharks.

That's a good way to get the new players who really like
the game to quit very quickly.

Attack them all you want-- Just not while they are online
in the middle of their Run.

Remember that I did not attack you first.
But I do not forgive, and I do not forget.

WOW, that's weak.

"Well if you're not going to allow me to cheat,
then I will take my marbles and go home!"

lol what losers.

The difference between "Camping" and "Online Hitting" has been
explained to me. (Hey I'm a newibe, I'm still learning!)

"Online Hitting" is, obviously, hitting someone while they are online.
This is great strategy and extremely painful for the victim because
they usually have their Defense down so that they can focus on
something else.

"Camping" is when the attacker intentionally sits around, watching
and waiting for someone to be vulnerable, and then attacks them.

What happened to me earlier this Round was not Camping, but
rather just an Online Hit because the attacker was finished and needed
to log off for the day, whereas I believe what happened during my
last Run of the last Round was absolutely intentional.

Definitions corrected, my point is still exactly the same:
I believe that both "Online Hitting" and "Camping" are perfectly
acceptable parts of the game, and it would be detrimental to
remove them or nerf them too much.

BUT I do believe that attacks on new players who are trying to
learn the game should be limited to times when they are not online.
